DeFuniak Springs, Fla— Walton County Sheriff’s Office arrested Byron Scott Holifield, 18, early Tuesday morning after a vehicle and foot pursuit.

At approximately 6:00am this morning, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office received a BOLO from Washington County for a vehicle that was stolen near HWY 20 and HWY 79, believed to be headed towards Walton County. Shortly after, deputies spotted a vehicle matching the description headed westbound on HWY 20.

When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to comply, resulting in a pursuit. Deputies received permission to deploy ‘spike strips’ and were successful in deflating the vehicles tires. The driver then continued a short distance where he left the roadway and fled the vehicle into a wooded area near HWY 331 and Coy Burgess Loop. A perimeter was set up surrounding the area where Holifield was last sighted. Roughly 30 minutes later, deputies spotted Holifield exiting the wooded area near Quail Ridge Road and he was taken into custody without further incident.

Walton County Sheriff’s Office informed residents in the immediate area via Reverse 911 of the incident and later updated them with a follow-up message after the suspect was detained.

Sheriff Adkinson says, “Our deputies handled this situation with the utmost professionalism and brought a swift resolution that resulted in the safety of all those involved.”
