Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Arrest’s Two Subjects In Connection With A Rash Of Destin Car Burglaries

After a rash of Destin car burglaries, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrested one suspect on burglary and grand theft charges and another man on drug charges Wednesday night.

Numerous car burglaries took place in the city of Destin December 20th and 21st . Car break-ins were reported on Mesa Road, Lauren Court, and Indian Trail with items taken from unlocked cars ranging from a Rolex watch and skateboards, to a wedding band and an AR 15 with ammunition.

During a search for suspects after the burglaries, a suspicious gold Toyota 4 Runner was spotted by witnesses in the area. They also described the suspects as two white males with dark hair.

Around 9 p.m. Wednesday night OCSO deputies made a traffic stop on a gold Toyota 4-Runner with an inoperable headlight driving on Kelly Street. The driver, 20-year old Michael Schifano and passenger 23-year old Travis Abadie, both of Destin, were taken into custody on narcotics charges.

During a search of the car, a black skateboard was found on the rear floorboard. The victim of one of the car burglaries identified the skateboard as his and as the one stolen.

Schifano is charged with Grand theft, burglary, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana. Abadie is currently charged with and possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.

Deputies say the investigation is ongoing.
