Learn About Poultry Production at Okaloosa/UF-IFAS Extension Oct. 27

chickenCitizens interested in becoming poultry producers can attend an October 27 Poultry Production 101 class at the Okaloosa-University of Florida Extension. The class will be held from 6 until 8 p.m., and is $10 per person. Samples and recipes are included. Call 850-689-5850 for information or to register.

Participants will learn proper egg handling, poultry processing and food safety with poultry products. The Okaloosa County Extension Office is located at 3098 Airport Road in Crestview. Other fall events at your Extension are listed below:

The peanut butter drive to “Take a Bite out of Hunger,” has begun, and continues through November 23, 2016. Peanut butter will be donated to local food pantries in early December. Drop off unopened jars of peanut butter to your local UF/IFAS Extension office at the following locations in Crestview:

  • UF/IFAS Extension-Okaloosa County:  3098 Airport Road, Crestview
  • Okaloosa County Farm Bureau:  921 W. James Lee Boulevard
  • USDA NRCS Crestview Service Center:  938 N. Ferndon Boulevard

On November 1, 2016, a Panhandle Equine Health and Management Workshop will be held at the Okaloosa County Extension Office, at 3098 Airport Road in Crestview.  The Workshop is from 6 to 9 p.m., and a meal will be provided. Guest speaker is Dr. Carissa Wickens, UF/IFAS Extension Equine Specialist. Registration details below:

It is National Preparedness Month, and the Extension is distributing free copies of the Florida “Homeowners Handbook to Prepare for Natural Hazards,” which are available at the Extension.
