A Fort Walton Beach man has been sentenced to Life in Prison following a jury trial for the First Degree Felony Murder of his 8 week old infant daughter.

William Alan Thomason

According to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office news release, William Alan Thomason was first arrested on September 14, 2013 for causing injuries that placed his eight week old infant in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. At the time of arrest, the infant was unresponsive and given a slight chance of survival. Thomason was first charged with Aggravated Child Abuse.

On September 13, 2017, deputies responded to the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center around 6:30 p.m. regarding an eight week old girl with suspicious injuries who had been brought to the emergency room by EMS. The infant girl had bruising, a broken collar bone and severe head trauma and was taken by helicopter to the Pediatric ICU at Sacred Heart where doctors said her chance of survival was “slight”.

Thomason told deputies that he was the only person with the victim during the time period between she was left in his care and the injuries were discovered. Thomason did give deputies several scenarios about how the injuries may have occurred, including that the infant may have hit her head on the faucet while he was giving her a bath,

On Monday, September 16th, 2013 shortly before 10:00 p.m., the victim, eight week old Braelyn Thomason, passed away due to her injuries.

Charges against William Thomason was then upgraded to homicide.

On June 8, 2017 a jury of William Thomason’s peers found him guilty and after a two day penalty phase returned with a verdict for a life sentence. The sentence was immediately handed down by Circuit Judge John Brown.
