Fatal Vehicle Accident in North Okaloosa County Claims the Life of Laurel Hill Resident

A fatal traffic crash on County Rd 602 in North Okaloosa County claimed the life of a 32 year old Laurel Hill resident.

On Sunday morning just before noon, emergency personnel responded to County Road 602, just west of Hwy 85, for a two vehicle accident with injuries and road blockage.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol news release, 32 year old James C. Brooks of Laurel Hill, FL was operating a 2015 Chevrolet Spark which was traveling eastbound on CR-602. 35 year old Daniel Brown also of Laurel Hill, FL was operating a 2000 Ford SUV traveling westbound on CR-602

Brooks’ Chevrolet crossed a double yellow line and entered into the westbound lane of travel. Brown was unable to take evasive action and the left front of both vehicles collided.

The collision sent Brooks’ Chevrolet Spark spinning counter-clockwise and came to final rest facing west while still partially in the eastbound lane and partially on the south shoulder of the roadway. Brown’s Ford SUV rotated counter-clockwise also and came to final rest facing in a southwesterly direction within the westbound lane.

According to the report, Brooks, who was wearing a seat belt, passed away on scene.

The report further stated alcohol results are pending.
