A 53 year old Crestview woman was airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle late Tuesday night.

The Crestview Police Department is currently investigating a traffic crash involving a pedestrian that occurred last night, September 13, 2016 at approximately 9:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 90 (James Lee Boulevard) near Barrow Street across from Twin Hills Park.

Shortly before the accident occurred, 31 year old Ricky Floyd of Crestview was eastbound on U.S. Highway 90, James Lee Blvd, in a 2006 Mazda, when 53 year old Shirley Scruggs of Crestview stepped out of the paved median and into the path of the car driven by Floyd. He was unable to swerve or stop before striking Scruggs.

Scruggs was air-lifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola where she was listed in critical condition. At this time, there are no criminal charges pending in the investigation.

A section of U.S. Highway 90 was closed for several hours after the accident, as officers from the Crestview Police Department completed Laser Mapping of the scene. Traffic was initially re-routed on side-streets but was re-opened and returned to normal, just before 2:00 a.m. this morning.

At this time it remains unknown why Scruggs entered into the traffic lanes. Witness stated that it appeared she was attempting to flag down vehicles in the poorly lit section of the roadway, just before the accident occurred.
