January 05, 2017

A car stolen from its owner at gunpoint Tuesday night was recovered a couple hours later after an OCSO Deputy spotted it being driven near Walmart in Fort Walton Beach and gave chase.

A 22-year old man reported his 2005 White Honda Accord was carjacked around 8 p.m. from the parking lot of the Country Corner Food Store located at 1312 Lewis Turner Boulevard. He reported that a short black male dressed in dark clothing tried to grab his keys and when he resisted, the man pointed a gun at him, then took his car.

A deputy working an unrelated call spotted the stolen car around 11:20 p.m. near Walmart and attempted a traffic stop, however the driver sped away. Following a short pursuit, the driver crashed into the front yard of a home on Sullivan Street and then fled the scene on foot.

A female juvenile passenger was detained and the investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the OCSO at 850-651-7400 or Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers at 850-863-TIPS.
