Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an alarm at the Sunoco Food Mart on Highway 90 in Milligan around 2:43 a.m. today and found the front door shattered.

Surveillance video showed a white male with shaggy hair and a beard, wearing blue jeans and a striped blue shirt, break the glass, grab two packs of what turned out to be Native brand cigarettes and a lighter, and run out the door.

A photo of the suspect was distributed to OCSO deputies and an off-duty deputy later spotted the suspect on the Yellow River Bridge. Beside the man was an unopened pack of Native brand cigarettes.

When informed he was under arrest for burglary, 30-year old Eddie McLeese said he would not have done it if the jail had not “stolen” his cigarettes and that “we should call it even”.

McLeese is charged with burglary, criminal mischief, and petty theft.
