Lightning Strikes Crestview Home Causing Roof Damage

Crestview, FL – The Crestview Fire Department responded to a home in the 200 block of Wedgewood Lane earlier this afternoon for a reported structure fire and discovered the home was struck by lightning however found no fire.

Firefighters responded to 214 Wedgewood Lane at 12:14 p.m. this afternoon for what was reported as a structure fire. Upon their arrival to the single-story home, they found no fire but rather smoke coming from the roof.

Lightning had struck the residence on the roof causing a hole. Upon entering the residence to investigate, firefighters found a light haze of smoke in the attic as well as the living area of the home.

According to the news release, no one was injured as a result of the lightning strike and the home sustained minimal damage to the roof. Firefighters were able to remove the smoke from the interior of the home and the hole in the roof was covered using tarps to protect the interior from rain water.
