Over a thousand without power, CHELCO responding

October 8, 2017

DeFuniak Springs, FL – CHELCO (Choctawhatchee Electric Cooperative)  crews are responding to widespread power outages throughout their service area in Walton, Okaloosa and Santa Rosa counties.

Due to tropical storm conditions resulting from Hurricane Nate, approximately 1,600 CHELCO members experienced power outages in over 65 separate locations.

CHELCO crews worked through the night and continue to restore power with approximately 50 personnel and 40 vehicles deployed throughout the service area.

At this time, damage caused by high-winds pushing trees and limbs onto the lines is the main reason for outages.

CHELCO anticipates reducing outages rapidly as conditions improve. Members can receive outage updates with anticipated restoration times on CHELCO’s outage map found at outageview.chelco.com.
